Build this city:
A free Construction Training Program

Important Announcement: Conclusion of the Build This City Program

We regret to inform everyone that our Build This City program has ended due to funding, effective April 1, 2024.

Over the past four years, our Build This City program provided job seekers with free short-term essential and technical skills training and one-on-one support that helped them transition from training to local employment opportunities in the construction sector.

The program supported construction sector employers by giving them access to job-ready workers with the skills needed to fill vacancies, wage subsidies for program graduates, and one-on-one support to ensure the success of new hires. The program also helped employers reduce employee turnover and provided advancement opportunities for staff through customized training that met their business’s unique needs.

We’re immensely grateful for the unwavering support we received from our partners and stakeholders. Your collaboration and commitment were pivotal to the success of this program.

Reflecting on our achievements since 2020 fills us with pride and gratitude:

  • 99 local job seekers received construction skills training
  • 84% of participants were employed after completing the program
  • 236 individuals received upskilling from their employers through the program

While we say goodbye to the Build This City program, the Sault Community Career Centre remains committed to serving the needs of program participants, employers, and community partners through our Employment Ontario Employment Services.
